Living Beyond Business
“A voice for the ones who can feel that something sacred is getting lost — and aren’t willing to keep performing through it.”
About the show
We're losing what makes us human.
I believe we’re losing what makes us human, and I think it’s a tragedy. That belief is what this show is built on.
Living Beyond Business is a podcast about how the loss is happening. We’ve been conditioned, since childhood, to turn ourselves into products, learning to perform an acceptable version of ourselves long before we had the words for what we were doing. At the same time, we live in an ever-expanding virtual world that our brains and nervous systems can’t reliably distinguish from the real one.
Which is why we can be hyper-connected and lonelier than humans have ever been at the same time. We’re quietly handing more and more of ourselves over to AI: our thinking, our intimacy, our art, our song. And underneath all of it sits the version of capitalism we live inside, which keeps requiring more of us in order to feed its growth.
It’s also a podcast about coming home to ourselves despite of all of this.
When I say business, I’m not talking only about your career. I’m talking about the system itself, and living beyond it doesn’t mean leaving the system behind. It means looking honestly at where you find yourself within it, and then choosing how you want to move through it. And when enough of us come home to the truth of our humanity, the system itself begins to shift.
Hosted by me, Henri Emile, an embodiment coach, ceremonial breathwork facilitator, and energy worker. For years I performed at a high level while completely cut off from my body. I pushed down everything I’d been taught was bad and refused to feel it. I didn’t listen when my body needed rest. I didn’t let myself feel much beyond being positive.
I didn’t know I was doing any of this. I didn’t know how hooked into the system I was, or how disconnected from my own needs, my own joy, the parts of me that weren’t being rewarded for showing up. It all came crumbling down eventually, when the system I had long upheld turned on me. The work I do now, with the people I sit with and on this show, comes out of that long return.
We’ll explore loneliness, and what’s underneath it. We’ll talk about what AI is taking from us, and what it’s giving us in exchange. We’ll go into money and worthiness, ritual and grief, work and rest, sex and shadow. We’ll sit with the older knowledge our bodies still remember when we slow down enough to listen. And we’ll connect into the core of our humanness, into the mythos of existence, into the celebration of what it means to be human in all of its glory, and all of its shades and shadows.
Some episodes will be conversations; others will be personal reflections, or reckonings. Some will be fun and light, some heavy, most somewhere in between.
If you can feel what I’m pointing at, you’re already in the room. Welcome.
